Bio
Deb's a mom to three terrific grownups, children's book writer, runner, nurse, book hoarder, lover
of peculiar trees and old burial grounds, writers' critique group leader, charity bike team captain, lover
of science and history buff.
Finding initials cool, she's an active member of SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators-YAY!), GALA (Greater Appalachian Llama and Alpaca Association) a real legit society, HHS (Hebron Historical Society), and ASPAN (nursing stuff).

She has two pet catfish she saved from a puddle (true story) named Simon and Sheuster.

She has shared her home with llamas since 1995. Llamas don't like shots, or haircuts, or their nails trimmed, just like some grownup kids she knows.

Her favorite color is cobalt-purple-dark green-swirly. It makes her happy.

She wrote her first book when she was 9, but her parents did not share her enthusiasm about a baby elephant that shot colored jellybeans from its trunk to share with all its little animal friends...the nose/hygiene/food-sharing thing. When she grew up and became a nurse, she understood.

LLAMAS
I fell absolutely head-over-heels in love with the docile, big-eyed llama in
1995 when I by chance attended a llama fair (that's right, llama fair, who knew?).

After that day, I knew I had to include them as part of my family. I am also a
member of GALA, the Greater Appalachian Llama and Alpaca Association, an organization of wonderful people dedicated to the education, care, networking and research of llamas.
Using their silly characteristics in my writing seems only natural, since they are so
naturally curious... and naturally silly.
